Digital Audio Tape

Theo: “Digital Audio Tape. What a crock. The format was too expensive to start with, and only classical music audiophiles wanted to buy anything on it. As a means of keeping data, Digital Audio Tape was much too slow for computers, so why would anyone even bother…”
Caedmon: “Theo, what are you doing?” Theo: “Dissin’ DAT.”
Caedmon facepalms; Theo grins.
Caedmon: “Were you sitting here, just waiting for me to show up?” Theo: “You’re so good at avoiding other traps, I thought I’d try a more subtle approach.”

This joke was new, once upon a time. I’m not sure how many of my readers may remember when DAT recordings were part of the public market. My dad had a DAT machine, which he used for recording and mixing his music, then (before CD days) had to transfer the result to mere audio-cassette. That makes little difference to Theo, who gets to put one more past Caedmon’s defenses. Beware interrupting someone who’s talking to himself; you might be the real target of the conversation!

This comic was underwritten by my friend Rys, behind whose back I would never talk. Not only is it not nice, but he just might be able to hear me anyway, one way or another… He can be spooky that way! Love ya, big guy.

Insert video footage of JonTron playing a DAT cassette in an audio cassette player.

Or, as I’ve had it pointed out, Shinji in Neon Genesis Evangelion. I was the original voice for Ikari Gendoh, so you’d think I’d have remembered that, lol.
