Sitting in Judgment

Caedmon: “Are you telling me that we have a felony being committed under our roof? Ophelia: “Not in this state, but I see what you mean.”
Lightfoot: “First of all, Cora is gone; Theo is alone. Second, who’s to know? Anyone looking in the windows of the house sees only humans. And third, if anything was somehow discovered, all of us appear human outside of this house, so there’s no evidence, nothing to convict.”
Ophelia: “As concise a brief as I ever wrote. Your argument is sound.” Caedmon: But shouldn’t we be thinking about the principle, the morality of this… act?” Lightfoot: “That’s what Theo’s doing right now.”
Sheila: “…bloody hell.” Ophelia: “Sustained.”

Lightfoot summarizes his case well. As we’ve already seen, Theo has considered this from a few directions already, and it’s part of his reason for sending Cora back home. The late-80s TV series Beauty and the Beast included an amazing second-season episode in which the lion-man Vincent (Ron Perlman) tells his beloved Catherine (Linda Hamilton) that “we are something that has never been; we must go carefully.” Since I’m a romantic, I won’t do to our housemates what George R. R. Martin did to grind the show to a gritty pulp in its foreshortened third season. Two more strips to go in this story arc!

I have been thinking on this and think that the morality issue they are hung up on is really non existent. They are not mere animals, they are fully aware and anthropomorphic. Mentally they are as human as any of us and even more probably. So there should be no issues with Cora and Theo as there is no legal or moral issues.

I brought up this and the previous comic precisely to address these ideas. Anthropomorphic art of all forms has been vilified for utterly false reasons. I hope that I’ve presented a proper case to quash that prejudicial nonsense. The next two comics should help as well. This is, after all, a love story. Thanks for being a good friend to the comic.

I have been a supporter of anthropomorphic art since I was knee-high to a skunk (and I had one as a pet when I was five :P ). And I thank you for bringing up a proper case to quash that crap slung at it. One of my favorite novel series deals with it as well from the struggles of the Werewolf’s mate who is human.
