Shakespeare's Furry

Lightfoot: “Why are you afraid, Theo?” Theo: “It’s all too much. What if we can’t find a way to make this work? She said she wants me, but what does she expect of me? I can’t lose being a furry, but I can’t lose Cora either, and I…”
Lightfoot: “Who chooseth me must give and hazard all he hath.” Theo: “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Lightfoot: “Shakespeare, talking about love. It’s all a risk. You risk everything, hoping it’ll turn out all right. And it’s the only thing in the universe worth taking such a risk for.”
Theo: “So Shakespeare was a furry?” Lightfoot: “Check out ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream.’ ‘Bottom’ is one of the great furries of English literature.”

In The Merchant of Venice, Portia is to be wed to whosoever chooses the correct chest, from a selection of three. The first contender is the Prince of Morocco, who sees the three casks and the notes upon each (Act II, Scene 7):

The first, of gold, who this inscription bears:
Who chooseth me shall gain what many men desire.
The second, silver, which this promise carries:
Who chooseth me shall get as much as he deserves.
This third, dull lead, with warning all as blunt:
Who chooseth me must give and hazard all he hath.

A thought… I wonder if the house sensing Them and bringing them together is its way of preparing those in the house for the complications of romance that say… a certain Roo may find knocking on her door.

My dear Mouse… how are you sneaking peeks into my notes and plans for future strips? *grin* That’s all I’ll say for now, other than to thank you for being such a faithful follower.
