Tied for Second Place

Bust of Nixon: “Beautiful day, Lightfoot.” Lightfoot: “You seem to want to talk today.”
Bust of Nixon: “I have such a vibrant viewpoint these days, I’m practically glowing.” Lightfoot: “And what is the cause of this good humor?”
Bust of Nixon: “I’d lived for years with the stigma of being considered the worst President in U.S. history. But now, after the 45 fiasco…”
Lightfoot: “So how does it feel to be in second place?” Bust of Nixon: “Tied with Dubya? Terrific!”

I’m sure more than one of you has come up with the scatological “number two” jokes, but this is supposed to be more of a “family strip” than not, so I’ll let you just keep those to yourselves. I figured “Tricky Dick” should have the chance to gloat just a little, after his introduction in the last strip. Those of us who lived through it will very likely be reminded of the definition of Executive Privilege: When you’re in an oval office, you can’t be backed into a corner.

Third place, really; Pres. Buchanan (the President before Lincoln) is usually regarded as the all-time worst President. Not so much for what he did, but for what he failed to do, which was find a way to prevent the US from splitting apart in the years leading up to the US Civil War. Not only that, but he also let Southern sympathizers raid Federal armories, strip them of weapons and black powder and ship it all south to arm the forming Confederate armies.

Now I’m imagining a bust of Cowboy Ronnie quietly smiling about how he is now being overlooked.

What about President Donald Trump? He is considered one of the worst Presidents of the US. I am a Canadian, but I wished Obama was still President of the US. I know that this strip was made prior to 2023 and before Trump was President.

Hence the reference to “45” in the strip. I find it distasteful even to use the name. :3
