My Fellow Foxy American

Narration bar: So, these pictures and busts aren’t alive, but… Lightfoot: “Everything, even man-made things, has a manitou. I just happen to be able to hear them, that’s all.”
Narration bar: Manitou? Bust of Sitting Bull: “Like a spirit or essence; it’s the insubstantial thing that makes a substantial thing what it truly is.”
Narration bar: Sounds like a ghost to me. Lightfoot: “Could be a ghost, in some cases. Sometimes people didn’t say all that they needed to in life.”
Bust of Nixon: “Hello, my fellow foxy American.” Lightfoot: “And then there are the ones who should have shut up decades ago.”

For those of you too young to have lived through those Watergate days, be grateful. For those of you who did live through it, you probably remember the “My fellow Americans” tag line from Nixon’s talks and speeches. Comedian and impressionist David Frye made great use of it on his comedy album Richard Nixon Superstar, as presented by “Billy Graham” (he provided at least a dozen different voices for the recording).
