Waiting at the Mouse Hole

Theo waits, tail twitching slightly.
Theo’s tail is even more active now.
Theo’s tail is moving faster.
Theo’s tail is moving at high speed. Theo (thought bubble): If this trick requires patience, I’m in deep trouble.

Theo is not one of those cats who can stare patiently at the mouse hole, waiting to see what might happen. There are two black-furred companions in my own house, and they have that annoying habit of sitting nearby and staring into the air, as if seeing something I can’t. If there’s a portal in my house, they haven’t shown it to me, the selfish little buggers. Harrumph. Snort.

Are you referring to the novel called The Man With Two Shadows, expecting me to plug my own book? Now, really, would I do a thing like that?

Maybe the portal only opens when you aren’t looking at it?
