It's a Preference

Theo: “Fess up, Shee. That can’t be the only ball joke you’ve got from working at a sporting goods store.” Sheila: “Cor, not ‘arf. Here’s a bit of trivia for you: There are golf balls designed differently for men and women.”
Lightfoot: “This isn’t some kind of discrimination?” Sheila: “Only by physiology. Women’s golf balls have a soft core, which gives more backspin for slow golf swings. Men’s golf balls, as you might guess, have a hard core; less backspin, more distance.”
Theo: “So this is a decision that some people take seriously?” Sheila: “It can be important to pros and amateur alike. It does make for interesting statements of preference.”
Woman Customer: “I just really like playing with men’s balls.” Sheila: “And who could blame you?”

Strangely, the first part of this conversation came about because a company that I was working for sponsored a women’s golf tournament, and this juicy tidbit of physiology and golf balls floated into my world. There was no way that I would miss having Sheila educate us, and the ensuing punchline was impossible to resist.
