Sheila: “You must have had some really rough times, pet. Were your past relationships that bad?”
Nickey: “Well, I can’t really call them relationships. I mean, nothing really happened. Nothing had a chance to happen.” Sheila: “You mean you’re… as Jimi Hendrix would say, inexperienced?”
Nickey: “That’s very discreet of you. Truth is, you’re the first woman I’ve ever kissed. Other attempts were…” Sheila: “…rebuffed?”
Nickey: “We weren’t in the buff at all, actually.” Sheila; “Jokes are back; you must be feeling better.”

Sheila has calmed Nickey’s fears, and the conversation begins again. With words comes understanding… and jokes.
