Go

Cora: “I don’t know when I’ll be able to come back. I mean, I don’t know about the gateway.” Theo: “This may sound really corny, but I think we’ll just have to trust.”
They share another kiss.
Theo: “Go… before I keep you hear forever.”
Cora: “The Martian Chronicles.” Theo: “You remembered!”

My mentor wasn’t thrilled with the 1980 TV production of his masterwork, calling it “the most boring mini-series ever made, apart from ‘The Wimps (sic) of War.” I found it a fair attempt, and the segment in the second of the three episodes contains the moving scene of Father Peregrine (Fritz Weaver) having a conversation with “Jesus” — actually a martian who has a chameleon-like ability to take on the visage of someone another person is most wanting to see. The martian is dying from “the wounds that you gave me in your secret mind,” from the crown of thorns to the marks of crucifixion. The priest must stop his dream before it kills the martian; he turns away, croaking that final line.

Of course, a proper movie and sci-fi geek like our couple here would know that. At least it’s safe for Cora to go now. The future… well, we’ll have to see, won’t we?

I hope she comes back that night… with her belongings.

Somehow I don’t think that this will be the last time that we’ll see Cora with Theo.
