The Art of Persuasion

Lightfoot: “Cora, you’ve been in this house once before, right?” Cora: “Twice, actually. I was here last night; I left a note for Theo.”
Lightfoot: “And you got here both times by going through the portal in the closet?” Cora: “Yeah. The first time was an accident…”
Cora: “…the second time, I… well, I guess I just really wanted it to happen, and somehow it did.’
Cora: “Is that how you got through?” Theo: “Let’s say it took a little persuasion.”

As we may remember, Theo’s experience with finding the portal fell into the category of YMMV. At least he didn’t have to resort to the “Hello Kitty” stickers. I have the feeling that the house would not have been happy with that…

That is SO not the point. The point is that if the house was going to be that stubborn, then Theo would have been justified in using the “Hello Kitty” stickers as a bludgeon. By that I mean I see the House’s job as protector, not Editor or Director of their lives. It is providing a safe place, not providing a Nanny-State, although a certain photographer may need a spanking from time to time. Certainly a bap on the nose seems to have been an educational moment.
