The Stuff No One Reads

Voice Out of Frame: “Well, I guess I’d better return this to circulation.” Mrs. Tuttobene: “I wouldn’t do that if I were you, young man. It’s the hand-bound edition of the memoirs of Gilles de Rais.”
Mrs. Tuttobene: “He killed as many as 600 children, aged 6 to 18. It is said that his memoirs contain coded information of his pact with evil that allowed him to get away with it for more than eight years.”
Silence in the library.
Voice Out of Frame: “And you shelved this openly?” Lightfoot: “We filed it in the reference section with the books on the stolen presidential elections of 2000 and 2016. No one read those, either.”

Not every book is to every person’s taste; that’s one reason to have libraries, so that you can browse, to find things that might be interesting. I don’t think that my local branch library has any books on pacts with evil, although I’m sure there are volumes that are close to it, probably in the “Politics” and “Business” sections. If you really want some interesting books to read, I’ve got a list that you could browse through; I’ve read over 1200, in my long years. Maybe I’ll post it one day. Meanwhile, go do something nice for your local librarian (tip of the titfer to Logan W. in Denton TX).
