Heavy Gig

Sheila: “Wotcha, mate?” Caedmon: “Good morning to you too, Sheila.”
Sheila: “Situations Vacant, eh? Job-hunting’s not fun.” Caedmon: “It’s a form of cruel and unusual punishment against the poor.”
Sheila: “Now here’s a perfect job for a bright ray of sunshine like yourself: Lead Toddler Teacher.”
Caedmon: “I never taught lead toddlers; only ones made of pewter and brass.” Sheila: “I never figured you for a fan of heavy metal.”

In case you hadn’t noticed, there are a lot of puns in this web comic! Today, you get to see Caedmon abusing a homograph, which is a word that is spelled the same but, when pronounced differently, has two meanings. This is not to be confused with a homophone, which occurs when differently-spelled words, with different meanings, sound the same (there/their/they’re). Then there’s the homonym, which… is a little too complicated to discuss here. (Caution: You may learn things in these web pages!)
